It’s been trying times for the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves, and both will turn to less-than-trustworthy starting pitchers when they meet Friday night at Citizens Bank Park.

Braves ace Mike Soroka suffered a torn Achilles tendon earlier in the week, which means Kyle Wright will need to go deeper than the combined six innings he has pitched in his first two starts of 2020. His career 7.67 ERA with an 0-4 record and 1.7 home runs per nine innings make it tough to have confidence in that happening.

The Phillies counter with Vince Velazquez, who is giving up 2.1 home runs per nine innings since the beginning of the 2019 season. Philadelphia entered Thursday with a 5.88 team ERA, which is second-worst in the majors.

With both teams ranked in the top 12 of MLB in team batting average entering Thursday and the Braves tied for second in runs per game, it should lead to a struggle for both pitchers.

The play: Braves-Phillies total, Over 10 runs.
