To celebrate the two-year anniversary of his sophomore album LAHAI, Sampha has shared a new seven-minute track entitled “Cumulus / Memory.” The song was the first that Sampha worked on for the LAHAI session, he says in a press release, and finished it over the last two years with the help of The xx’s Romy Madley Croft. “Living with it for some time,” he writes, “I really feel like I wanted to share it with people.” Taking his time has paid off: “Cumulus / Memory” enchants Sampha’s one-of-one dream-soul sound with an ambient pace. Glittering, plush keys twinkle and vibe as necessary throughout the song as Sampha peppers his pining with traces of humor and flexing. Hear it below.
