Another highlight expands the program gamescom 2026: With Games Done Quick (GDQ) is launching an official live speedrunning event on European soil for the first time in 2026!
Games Done Quick is one of the most famous speedrun formats on the Internet. Over the many years of the marathon’s existence, numerous speedrunners have speedrunned for a good cause and streamed the whole thing on Twitch and YouTube. Since its inception it has Games Done Quick above $60 million collected for charitable purposes – including for organizations such as Doctors Without Borders and the Prevent Cancer Foundation. Under the name gamescom GDQ The speedrun event will take place this year from August 28th to 30th directly at the trade fair in Cologne.
Three days of speed runs for a good cause
On all three days, visitors can expect a continuous speedrun program of approx 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Top players from all over the world present their runs live on stage. As with classic GDQ events, the focus here is on charity. Viewers can donate during the event. This time the proceeds go to the initiative Gaming for Democracy. The project is jointly run by the Bertelsmann Foundation and the Digital Gaming Culture Foundation and is intended to promote democratic values through games.
The application phase for speedrunners starts on 4. May. Further details about the process will follow in the coming weeks.
