Iwamoto-senpai No Suisen Reveals Main Theme Songs, New Cast Members & July 4 Debut Date

The main theme songs and two new cast members have been revealed for the upcoming Iwamoto-senpai no Suisen TV anime series, which will debut in Japan on July 4, 2026. 

The anime’s opening theme is “BUDDING” by THE JET BOY BANGERZ and the ending theme is “Koko ni Iru” by WOLF HOWL HARMONY

Additionally, the two new cast members joining the series include Gen Sato, best known for voicing Chrome from Dr. Stone as Ryu Sazame (left) and Shinnosuke Tokudome, who voiced Wada from Let’s Go Karaoke!, as Mizuhi Awadama (right).  

Meanwhile, the anime’s previously announced voice cast include: 

  • • Taito Ban as Kodo Iwamoto
  • • Yuki Sakakibara as Kai Haramachi
  • • Kento Ito as Soichiro Amaba
  • • Akira Ishida as Bokyo Kitsujo
  • • Masaya Fukunishi as Oni Okuaki
  • • Takuma Nagatsuka as Shizuma Aonuma

Toshifumi Kawase (Yakuza Fiancé: Raise wa Tanin Ga Ii) is directing the anime series, with Keiichiro Ochi (The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten) as series composer and Atsuko Nakajima (Komi Can’t Communicate, Ranma 1/2 remake) as character designer. Studio Deen is in charge of the animation production. 

The anime adaptation is based on the historical supernatural manga series by Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan creator Hiroshi Shibashi. It began serialization in Shueisha’s Ultra Jump seinen magazine on February 19, 2021 and has released 13 tankobon volumes as of January 2026. A 14th volume will be published in Japan on July 17, 2026. 

Shibashi’s manga originally began as a one-shot on Shonen Jump+ that was released in March 2020.

Iwamoto-senpai no Suisen centers on Kodo Iwamoto, who attends a middle school under the army’s control during the early 20th century, and is ordered to investigate supernatural phenomena around the country. One day, he comes across a boy with a special power and offers him a recommendation letter to join his school.
