A main trailer for next month’s Cyborg 009: Nemesis has dropped, previewing the upcoming clash between 009 and his allies with the members of the Nemesis organization. It was also announced that the anime’s ending song is Sukima Switch‘s 2024 song “Climal.”
Cyborg 009: Nemesis‘ three episodes will debut via streaming on July 19 at 00:00 JST. The show is the latest anime in the Cyborg 009 franchise, where the basic premise sees nine cyborgs, including the titular 009, escaping from the Black Ghost organization that abducts humans and develops combat cyborgs for sale. Nemesis sees the emergence of Nemesis, led by the gravity-manipulating Graviton, which believes that 009 and his allies are incapable of guiding the world to peace.
Hideki Anbo (Yakitori: Soldiers of Misfortune) is directing the show at ARECT. The cast includes Yuki Kaji as Joe Shimamura/Cyborg 009 and Yuichi Nakamura as Graviton.
Cyborg 009 was created by the late Shotaro Ishinomori, with the original manga debuting in Shonengahosha’s now-defunct Weekly Shonen King on July 19, 1964. A novel trilogy based on Ishinomori’s manuscripts. titled Cyborg 009 Kanketsu-hen 2012 009 conclusion GOD’S WAR, was released in 2012 and served as the conclusion to the Cyborg 009 story.
Cyborg 009 has inspired various TV anime and movies, the first being the 1966 film of the same name. Nemesis is preceded by 2016’s three-part Netflix anime Cyborg 009: Call of Justice.
Tokyopop published some of the manga’s volumes in English, while the now-defunct Comixology platform had the manga with the rest of Ishinomori’s catalogue. An American graphic novel published by Archaia was released in 2013.
