The Big Bang Theory: 5 Times Amy Should Have Dumped Sheldon (& 5 Times He Should Have Dumped Her) -BB

Anyone who has ever watched The Big Bang Theory will know that Sheldon can be a bit of a nightmare to live with, talk to, or be around. When he met Amy, their weird relationship became the centerpiece of the show and their interactions provided us with some of the most quotable moments it ever came up with.

However, there were certainly more than a few times that she didn’t quite treat Sheldon right either. We’ve collected five moments when each partner should have dumped the other.

10 She Should Have Dumped Him: When He Made The Relationship Agreement

Amy should have been aware of the risks of involving herself with Sheldon Cooper from the get-go. After all, this is a guy who has an active ‘roommate agreement’ with Leonard, which forces him to drive him to work, the comic book store, and the model train store (amongst other things). Surely Amy would have been wary of him making something similar for them?

Well, he did, and it made rules on everything from hand-holding to sex. Rather than being confused and alarmed that she was being made to sign this creepy contract, Amy ended up finding it to be a nice romantic gesture…

9 He Should Have Dumped Her: When She Stopped Working With Him Because He Passed Out

There was a very brief time in which Sheldon was taking a break from his intensive physics work. As part of his time off, he decided to join Amy in her bio-lab to help her out. Of course, he undermines her work and immediately assumes that he knows what he’s doing, even though he doesn’t.

When she told him to wash up, he should have just washed up rather than trying to get involved in her work. However, when he ended up passing out due to disgust at his task, rather than supporting her boyfriend and coming to his aid, she simply told him he couldn’t work with her anymore. Harsh.

8 She Should Have Dumped Him: When He Crashed Her Date With Stuart

On the face of it, Sheldon’s interruption of Amy’s date with Stuart was quite a nice, romantic thing to do. He couldn’t sit back and watch as the girl he loved was on a date with another man, so he went to profess his feelings. Lovely. However, Amy should really have thought about the implications of this a little more.

Only asking Amy to be his girlfriend when he saw her with someone else paints him as a particularly jealous figure, who was happy to continue keeping Amy as his exclusive partner on his terms only, not thinking about her at all. Also, you should certainly reconsider your involvement with someone who would do that to Stuart.

7 He Should Have Dumped Her: She Changes Her Personality

When Amy and Sheldon first met, she was basically a mirror of Sheldon. She had the same wooden demeanor, the same social misunderstanding and the same plan for effectively no human intimacy at all. This made Sheldon really like her, and the couple matched up perfectly.

After meeting and befriending Penny, Amy quickly developed from a Sheldon-clone into someone relatively normal, with a desire for human intimacy and a relationship like those her friends had. By the end of the show, Amy was a completely different person to the one Sheldon first met, and had developed Sheldon along with her. She did make him a better person, but her sudden and dramatic change seemed a little unfair on Sheldon in its early days.

6 She Should Have Dumped Him: When Stayed Home To Play Star Wars

When Sheldon and Amy were first courting, they had a semi-distant relationship that Sheldon didn’t really understand, and Amy wanted to move along far too quickly. She invited Sheldon to the wedding of a family member, to which he said yes, and then tried to stay at home to play the Star Wars online game. She convinces him to come anyway, and he tries to bring his laptop.

Then when she sarcastically tells him to stay home and play anyway, he does! A very poor, selfish move from Dr. Cooper there.

5 He Should Have Dumped Her: She Does Some Pretty Terrible Things

There have been a lot of times that Amy has done things to Sheldon (and others) that are pretty much just as bad as things Sheldon does. She spends half of her time trying to change him, and the other half insulting his passions. On top of that, she insults his friends, manipulates people when she needs to (mostly for some sort of Sheldon-approval) and has a few moments of downright meanness.

She even ruined Star Trek for Sheldon by revealing a few plot holes that made him question the quality of the franchise. If you can guilt-free ruin something your boyfriend loves, should they be your boyfriend?

4 She Should Have Dumped Him: When He Tried To Ruin Something For Her

However, when Amy ruined Star Trek for Sheldon, he took things a bit far. It makes sense to be annoyed by that, but the weirdly menacing plan Sheldon came up with would certainly be grounds for a breakup in some cases. Rather than just getting over it, Sheldon went out of his way to ruin Amy’s favorite show, Little House On The Prairie. It didn’t work as well as he had hoped and eventually, he realized that his actions weren’t particularly pleasant, but Amy should have reconsidered her future with such a revenge-oriented partner.

3 He Should Have Dumped Her: She Tries To Push Him A Bit Too Far

As Amy developed in personality, Sheldon took things much, much slower. Rather than understanding Sheldon’s position on the matter (which she should have done considering she had recently been there herself), she ended up getting sick of Sheldon’s lack of intimacy and started to demand more and more from him.

She would frequently try to kiss him or request that they sleep together or attempt to gain intimacy he wasn’t yet comfortable with. Technically, once Sheldon had made his discomfort known, she should have backed off a little.

2 She Should Have Dumped Him: When He Acts On The Relationship Agreement

Moving back to the relationship agreement, every time Sheldon acts on it should be a time in which Amy should end things. To base a loving relationship around scheduled sex and force your girlfriend to drive you where you need to go because she had to sign a document is just bizarre.

Eventually, they seem to have phased the agreement out and moved their relationship to a less pre-planned existence, which is good, but she should certainly have got out when she could early on.

1 He Should Have Dumped Her: She Undermines His Interests

The whole point of The Big Bang Theory is to laugh at nerd culture. It isn’t exactly the perfect way to run a show, but it seemed to work for them as they made their way to 12 seasons pretty quickly. However, Sheldon loves everything from Star Wars to Star Trek to Halo to Batman, which is basically a list of everything Amy hates.

Rather than quietly letting him get on with it and enjoy his interests, she constantly makes it known to him and all of his friends how stupid she thinks everything they like is. As above, she even ruined Star Trek for him that one time.
