How to individually mute tabs in Google Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Microsoft Edge

It becomes really embarrassing when a browser starts playing music automatically from a webpage. Thankfully, most modern browsers allow users to mute each tab individually. The feature comes handy when you are already listening to or watching something on your device and suddenly some random background music starts playing.

So, if you are annoyed by such web page background audio, here’s how you can mute them individually.

Google Chrome
Google Chrome indicated the audio playback by a speaker icon on the tab on which the audio is playing. To mute that, all you need to do is right-click on the tab and choose the Mute option from the popup menu. Alternatively, you can directly click on the speaker icon to mute.

Apple Safari
To mute a tab on Safari, Look for the speaker icon on the address bar of the tab in which the sound is playing. Click on it to toggle the sound on/off.

Mozilla Firefox
Similar to Google Chrome, users need to right-click on the tap with the speaker icon and choose the Mute option.

Microsoft Edge
Although Microsoft Edge shows a speaker icon when a tab is playing music, they are not interactive. To mute any music playing in Edge browser, you’ll need to right-click on the speaker icon from the Windows taskbar and manually mute the speaker icon.
