„How Apple may please old iPhone users with next big iOS update

NEW DELHI: When Apple announces a new iOS update, there are some old iPhone models that are not included in the list of eligible devices that are set to receive the update. For instance, when iOS 13 was rolled out Apple dropped out the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus. However, if a new report by iPhonesoft is to be believed, Apple may not leave out any iPhone this year.

As per the report, all the iPhones that run on iOS 13 right now, will be eligible for the iOS 14 update. The list includes iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone X, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max.

Besides the aforementioned iPhones, the 2020 iPhones that includes all iPhone 12 models and the rumoured budget iPhone — iPhone SE 2 or iPhone 9. Notably, its predecessor, iPhone SE, is also included in the list of iPhones that are reportedly compatible with iOS 14. The report, however, suggests that Apple may drop iPhone SE as the A9 chip that powers this iPhone if it encounters any hitch.

Apple is expected to first showcase its iOS 14 at the Worldwide Developers Conference that is expected to happen in June 2020.

Along with iOS, the report also sheds some light on the next iPadOS update. As per the report, unlike it was in the case iPhones, not all iPadOS 13 devices will receive the next update. The report suggests that Apple may phase out the iPad mini 4 and the iPad Air 2. To recall, the iPad mini 4 was launched in September 2015 and comes powered by Apple A8 chipset, while the iPad Air 2 was launched in October 2014 and comes powered by A8X chipset.
