Toho has revealed that the next Detective Conan/Case Closed movie will premiere during 2023’s Golden Week holiday period. 

Previous Detective Conan movies have premiered near the start of the Golden Week but not during the period itself.

Details about the 26th Detective Conan movie are mostly unknown, but the announcement video indicates that the plot will focus on Ai Haibara. The kanji for “black” was also revealed to be part of the subtitle.

The previous Detective Conan film, The Bride of Halloween, premiered in Japan on April 15 this year. It is currently the 44th top-grossing movie in the country with 9.68 billion yen (~US$65.99 million) as well as the highest-grossing film in the franchise.

Gosho Aoyama’s Shogakukan-published manga, titled in English as Detective Conan by Shogakukan Asia and Case Closed by Viz Media, began in 1994 and has 102 tankoubon volumes as of September 2022. It is serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday. A TV anime adaptation began in 1996 and is still on-going. There have also been various spin-offs and OVA adaptations.
