Midnight Train: New Moon is a 2D exploration-based horror adventure game developed by Spain-based indie game studio LydiaBluebell. It is a remake of the free RPG Maker game Midnight Train, originally released in 2020. Although the original hails from Spain, it belongs to the lineage of traditional horror RPGs nurtured within Japan’s free game culture, and garnered high praise, particularly among free game fans outside Japan.
Midnight Train: New Moon retains the story-driven experience of uncovering the truth through exploration and puzzle-solving, while featuring completely revamped graphics, visual effects, and game balance. It has been rebuilt so that both newcomers and those who have played the original can enjoy it with a fresh perspective.
Guided by a train, Luna arrives at a strange building. Through exploration and puzzle-solving, she aims to escape. Inexplicable events, crises that arrive without warning, and the truth revealed in fragments—the full picture of the story gradually becomes clear.
Story
Luna Wyndell is a girl traveling by train in search of a certain place. Before she knows it, all the passengers inside the train have vanished without a trace, and the train has stopped in a strange void.
Together with Neil, an aspiring detective also left behind on the train, she steps into a building in the void. There, the two discover a strange pocket watch, along with a note:
“Find the next train. It departs in three hours. If you fail, you’ll be trapped here forever.”
