Netflix has released a new English trailer for the upcoming CG animated film Ultraman Rising, based on the Ultraman film franchise from Tsuburaya Productions. The film will premiere sometime in 2024.
Ultraman Rising is directed by Shannon Tindle (animator for Coraline, Kubo and the Two Strings), who is directing his first film, with John Aoshima as co-director. Tindle is also serving as co-writer for the film with Marc Haimes. The film is based on characters by Eiji Tsuburaya (Godzilla, Ultraman), with Tsuburaya Productions and Industrial Light and Magic credited as the production companies.
Netflix previously released a 3DCG ONA series adaptation of Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimoguchi’s 2011 Ultraman manga series. It was co-produced by Production I.G and Sola Digital Arts. The first season was released in April 2019, with seasons two and three being released in April 2022 and May 2023, respectively.
The Ultraman Super Sentai franchise has inspired numerous TV series, miniseries, specials, films, and comic series across the Shouwa, Heisei, and Reiwa eras.
Netflix and Tsuburaya Productions describe the synopsis of Ultraman Rising as:
When baseball superstar Ken Sato returns home to Japan to pick up the mantle of Earth-defending superhero Ultraman, he quickly finds more than he bargained for as he’s forced to raise the offspring of his greatest foe.
