TL;DR
Anthropic launched inference hooks for Claude Enterprise. Every prompt and tool call response passes through the customer’s DLP server before reaching Claude. Works with Netskope, Palo Alto, Zscaler. Covers all Claude surfaces with one config.
Anthropic launched inference hooks for Claude Enterprise, a system that routes every prompt and tool call through a customer’s own security server before Claude processes anything. The company’s DLP server inspects the content and returns an allow or deny verdict. Claude only proceeds once it has one. The same check runs on tool calls: when Claude calls a tool through MCP, skills, or plugins, the tool’s response is checked before it reaches the model.
The feature solves a specific enterprise problem. Security teams require every channel where employees can move sensitive data to pass through an inspection point they control. Until now, inline enforcement was limited to Claude Code’s client-side hooks. Inference hooks extends that to every Claude Enterprise surface, including chat, Claude Code, Cowork, and connected tools, with a single configuration at the organisation level. No separate integration per product.
The system uses a webhook-based protocol with a published schema, designed to plug into existing DLP infrastructure from Netskope, Palo Alto Networks, Proofpoint, Zscaler, or custom-built servers. Shadow mode (always allow) lets teams monitor before enforcing. Role-based exclusions and percentage-based rollouts let organisations phase in gradually. The White House is asserting control over who accesses frontier models, and inference hooks is Anthropic’s answer to the enterprise equivalent: letting companies control what their own employees send to the model.
The feature addresses the concern that Nadella and others have raised about enterprises “outsourcing their thinking” to AI providers. With inference hooks, Claude never sees the prompt if the company’s security server blocks it. The data stays inside the enterprise perimeter. Startups are raising hundreds of millions to build AI security control layers, and Anthropic is building that control layer directly into Claude rather than leaving it to third parties. Available in beta today for Claude Enterprise customers.
