#Charlotte Gainsbourg’s Documentary on Mother Jane Birkin Gets Trailer: Watch

Charlotte Gainsbourg’s documentary on her mother, Jane Birkin, has its first trailer. Check it out below, via Screen. Jane by Charlotte, which premieres tomorrow (July 8) at Cannes, was Gainsbourg’s way “to get close to her” mother,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “The idea was to be able to look at her really with the eye of a daughter.” It does not yet have U.S. distribution.

The film had been on hold after Birkin told her daughter that her questions were too probing, Gainsbourg told THR. “She said, ‘I hated what you did in Japan. I hated the interview.’ I just said to the producer, ‘Well, the film is finished. We can’t continue.’” But in the end, she added, Birkin “did understand that it was done in a caring way, that it is a declaration of love for my mother.”

Gainsbourg also said plans are under way to open her father Serge’s home as a museum.
