Code Geass: Star Chaser Aspal Teaser Reveals Historical-like Setting, 2027 Debut

A teaser trailer for the new Code Geass anime, Code Geass: Star Chaser Aspal (Code Geass: Hoshioi no Aspar) has dropped. A 2027 release date for the show was also revealed.

While plot details are currently unknown, the early look reveals a society with largely premodern technology, with one portion seemingly depicting archers taking fire at an incoming mech. There is also some dialogue about happiness; the speaker of the first line ponders about its meaning, while the second declares that they will grant it to the person they’re addressing.

Code Geass: Star Chaser Aspal was revealed last December, a year after it was announced that new titles from the Code Geass franchise will be produced. At the time, the latest Code Geass anime was the sequel series Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture, which was released in 2024 on Disney+ and also received theatrical screenings in Japan.

The first anime in the franchise was Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, which ran from 2006 to 2008 with two seasons. Crunchyroll describes its synopsis as such:

The year is 2017 of the Imperial calendar and parts of the world are under the control of the Holy Britannian Empire. Lelouch Lamperouge, an exiled Britannian prince, encounters a strange girl known as C.C., who gifts him with a great and terrible power. The Geass. With this powerful ability, Lelouch can get anyone to do as he wills. But the power of Geass: is it a blessing…or a curse?

Other anime entries include OVAs, a recap film series with continuity differences, a sequel to the recaps titled Code Geass Lelouch of the Re;surrection, and the Code Geass: Akito the Exiled spin-off series.
