Ryoko Kui‘s Delicious in Dungeon manga has won the title of Best Comic at the 55th Seiun Award.
The manga, about a party of adventurers who dine on all sorts of monsters as they traverse a dungeon in search of one of their own, faced four other competitors in the Best Comic category: Petos‘ Interviews With Monster Girls, Kyu Sumiyoshi‘s Hyperinflation, Yusuke Osawa’s Star Wars: Mandalorian 2, and Reiji Nagata‘s Rasenjikake no Umi.
Other manga or anime-related winners include mangaka Kia Asamiya (Silent Möbius), who received the Best Artist award, and Giant Robots: The Core of Japanese Mecha Anime (Nihon no Kyodai Robot Gunzou – Kyodai Robot Anime, Sono Design to Eizou Hyougen) in the free category (which features “Everything that feels [a] Sense of Wonder”).
Voting for the 55th Seiun Award took place from April 23 to May 31. The award ceremony for the speculative fiction award will be held on July 6 at the 62nd Japanese SF Convention.
For this year’s Best Media category (which saw Godzilla: Minus One crowned as the winner), anime like 16-bit Sensation: Another Layer, The Birth of Kitaro: The Mystery of GeGeGe, and Gridman Universe were among the nominees.
Delicious in Dungeon has an ongoing anime adaptation that began airing in January.
