#Economic Report: U.S. factory orders show continued strength in November

It’s the 18th gain in orders for manufactured goods in the last 19 months

Orders for U.S. manufactured goods rose 1.6% in November, the Commerce Department said Thursday. That’s the 18th gain in the last 19 months.

Economists surveyed by the Wall Street Journal were expecting a 1.7% rise.

The factory orders release gives more complete information than the advance durable goods report that was released on Dec. 23.

Durable-goods orders rose a revised 2.6% in November, up slightly from the initial estimate of a 2.5% gain. Orders for nondurable goods were up 0.7% in the month.

Orders for nondefense capital goods, excluding aircraft were flat in November. The initial estimate was a 0.1% decline. This category is a key measure of business spending.

Shipments of factory goods rose 0.7% in November. Unfilled orders and inventories also rose 0.7% in the month.

Economists say it is too early to tell how the omicron variant might affect business investment.
