A representative for Depp has put to rest rumors of the actor accepting $301 million for a chance to reprise his swashbuckling duties.

Rumors ran rampant after a story circulated wherein a source claimed actor and musician Johnny Depp was being wooed by Disney with an offer of $301 million to reprise his role as Jack Sparrow in the next couple of productions of Pirates of the Caribbean. According to the report, Disney also sent an apology letter to Johnny Depp and was in the process of preparing a draft for Depp. The person claimed:

“Disney are very interested in patching up their relationship with Johnny Depp. They reached out to the actor prior to his defamation trial against Amber Heard and asked whether he would be interested in returning for another Pirates film or two. I know corporate sent him a gift basket with a very heartfelt letter, but I’m unsure how it was received. But what I can tell you is that the studio has already penned up a draft for a film about Jack Sparrow – so they are very hopeful that Johnny will forgive them and return as his iconic character.”

On Monday, a representative for Depp released a very simple four-worded statement of their own:

“This is made up.”

During the actor’s defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard, Depp was asked by Heard’s defense attorney Ben Rottenborn,

“If Disney came to you with $300 million dollars and a million alpacas, nothing on this earth would get you to go back and work with Disney on a Pirates of the Caribbean film?”

Depp replied under oath:

“That is true.”

Not only has the Jack Sparrow actor expressed an unwillingness to put on the pirate boots, but franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer has said the actor was not being considered at this point and the future of the series was undecided. The famous filmmaker also confirmed that there are two separate screenplays for Pirates which are currently in Disney’s possession. One of those screenplays supposedly features a character to be played by Margot Robbie and will allegedly consist of a mostly female cast.

In the meantime, Depp has been seen recently having a blast performing on stage with English rock guitarist Jeff Beck, is gearing up to play King Louie XV in Jeanne du Barry for what will be his first movie in a while and has plans for a summer 2023 tour with his band the Hollywood Vampires.
