The Pretour fan favorite is now available to play wherever you get your music.

Fan favorite Kim Petras track “Pop Sound” is finally available on streaming.
Petras initially released the track as a low-key, but still very evocative New York-set music video in February as part of her Pretour EP: a four-song project, just released on Youtube, that set the stage for her eventual independent debut, Detour. The FADER had a wide-ranging conversation with Petras about Detour in May. See here for the entire interview.
The Frost Children, Nightfeelings, and Margo XS-produced track is a minimalist trance ballad that features some of Petras’s most provocative lyrics that reflect on Petras’s complex relationship with fame and pop stardom. “Made for the masses / Made for the money /Made for the thrill /Factory girl,” she sings over a rising bed of synth chords.
Petras expanded on those themes in her May interview with The FADER. “If you work with the wrong people who don’t care about the artist and the artistry first, it becomes about money. You become a product and you become a joke in many ways,” she told The FADER. “[Detour] is about about fighting off anyone who wants to get in the way of art and pervert it in a way.”
Petras is officially releasing “Pop Sound” after consistent fan request for the song to be put on streaming services, leading Petras to tell fans to stop asking for the song and allow it to remain “our little secret that we love dearly.” It’s clear that the fan enthusiasm eventually got to Petras, though, and today, July 15, she shared the song alongside a cheeky note: “Surprise !! Pop Sound is now available on streaming !! Comment ‘TWEAK’ if you’re grateful !”
