Highlights from Wednesday’s Jets practice:

The good

Rookie running back La’Mical Perine had a strong performance during the team’s scrimmage. Facing the starting defense, he ran for a 79-yard touchdown. He then busted a 36-yard run with the starting offense. The fourth-round pick has shown a lot of potential.

The bad

The starting offense and defense had rough outings. The offense did not score a point and turned the ball over three times. The defense gave up 20 points to the second-team offense. Dismal day all around.

Caught my eye

Rookie WR Denzel Mims was running lightly on a side field. Mims has missed all of training camp with a hamstring injury. This was the first time he has run, a step toward returning to the field.

Medical report

Guard Greg Van Roten left the scrimmage with an oblique injury. OLB Tarell Basham will miss a few weeks with an ankle injury. WR Lawrence Cager (knee) was undergoing an MRI exam on Wednesday. WR Breshad Perriman (knee), OL Conor McDermott (knee), RB Josh Adams (hamstring), CB Pierre Desir (hamstring), CB Brian Poole (dehydration), S Matthias Farley (hamstring) and DE Jabari Zuniga (quad) all remained out.
