The live-action Look Back film has received a teaser trailer and teaser visual, highlighting the manga-drawing days of lead characters Fujino and Kyomoto. Accompanying the new looks was the announcement of Natsuki Deguchi and Aju Makita’s respective castings as Fujino and Kyomoto.
According to the film company K2‘s website, Deguchi and Makita spent around four months on manga drawing practice before production began. The two were previously in The Makanai: Cooking for the Maiko House, which was also directed by Look Back‘s Hirokazu Kore-eda (Shoplifters, Broker, Monster).
Separately, GKIDS, which previously announced that it would bring Look Back to the US, Canada, the UK, and Ireland, revealed a 2026 release date for the film.

Look Back adapts the Shueisha-published Look Back one-shot by Chainsaw Man‘s Tatsuki Fujimoto. The story follows classmates Fujino and Kyomoto, who develop a friendship through their shared passion for drawing.
The manga, which is also available in English via Manga Plus and VIZ Media, was first released in July 2021 and previously inspired a 2024 anime movie adaptation, which was directed by Kiyotaka Oshiyama (Flip Flappers director, Chainsaw Man devil designer) at his Studio Durian. The anime won Best Animated Work award at the 48th Japan Academy Film Prize.
K2 Pictures recently announced a live-action film adaptation of Osamu Tezuka’s The Book of Human Insects and an anime movie adaptation of the Gigant manga.
