“Fruits Basket” was implemented as an anime series back in 2001. In the studio TMS Entertainment, the series was given a remake in 2019, which was divided into three seasons. But what makes the series so special?

First a landslide that destroys their tent and the request of the Somas cause them to come to the Somas’ house. When Kyo, another offspring of the Soma family, also comes to settle accounts with his archenemy Yuki, Toru discovers the secret of the Soma family: When members of the Soma family are hugged by people of the opposite sex or are very weak, they transform into one of the twelve Eto, whereby hugs from members of the twelve, regardless of gender, do not lead to any transformations. These transformations usually cancel on their own after a while.
Despite the knowledge of the secret of the Soma clan, she is allowed to continue living there. Little by little she gets to know more and more members of the family and finds out more and more secrets. Because the curse seems to go beyond the metamorphosis: each of the cursed has his own secrets.

A very central aspect is the music in the anime. This is accompanied appropriately in the decisive scenes. The openings and endings also go well with the series. With each additional season, the opening sounds more modern, which also fits in well with the current time.

Personal opinion:
The series “Fruits Basket” is a very multi-faceted anime. I haven’t seen the old series, but I can well imagine that it could not reflect the entire content of the series well, as there are so many stories to tell about the characters. I like the idea that Toru Honda is a helpful support for every member of the zodiac sign and accompanies them on their way. For me the plot was not predictable until the end and could surprise me again and again.
The special focus on the story of Toru Honda, Yuki Soma and Kyo Soma also works very well in the series. The strong character development, which is characterized by ups and downs, is particularly noticeable. Spread over a total of three seasons, no story is left out and is told at a pleasant pace. A big plus for me. The animations also looked very good and could even improve after each season.
Overall, I found the series very strong and well thought out. In addition to very exciting stories, the development of the characters also ensures a successful series that I can definitely recommend.
