Most Anticipated Fall 2025 Anime — Anime Trending Staff Picks

The final anime season of 2025 is almost here! Ahead of Fall 2025’s start, Anime Trending’s writers gathered to talk about the one show from the upcoming season that they’re most eager to watch.

Despite being aware of the light novels’ existence for some time, I still struggle to grasp what Chitose Is in the Ramune Bottle is about beyond the first volume’s synopsis. All I know for sure is that it has a popular person as a protagonist and it’s set in high school. An incredibly vague image, to be sure, but since I have a predilection for youth stories, it was enough to make me want to check out at least one episode of the show.

However, the reason I’m looking forward to the anime so much is because of its teaser trailer, and the fact that it’s Yuji Tokuno’s debut as series director. Tokuno first caught my eye with the visuals of【OSHI NO KO Episode 10, and later again with the impactful staging of YAIBA: Samurai Legend Episode 6. Hence, when I saw their name in the staff lineup, my interest shot up considerably.

The teaser trailer solidified my anticipation, bathing me in an atmosphere that felt both sparkly and wistful, and teasing me with some really eye-catching shots — the one that observes someone climbing up the stairs through the wellhole is the kind of bonkers framing I live for. I’m guessing that most, if not all, of those shots are from the first episode — the one most likely to be storyboarded and executed by the series director — but fingers crossed that Tokuno’s presence has drawn other talented folks to the production so that this story of youth can leave an indelible shine.

Several times I have picked up this manga at the bookstore, along with many of its queer horror siblings, and then set it back down — partially in fear of the visual triggers, but mostly in fear of how close to home the story might hit. But now that an anime adaptation looms on the horizon… Well, I can’t stave off the doomed yuri forever!

When high school student Hinako nearly gets eaten by a monster, she is saved by the mermaid Shiori, who vows to protect her — with the stipulation that she’ll get to eat Hinako once she matures into the perfect meal. In the main trailer, Hinako seems quite eager to fulfill this agreement, even hoping Shiori will devour her sooner than later. I’m curious to see how (or if) the show will parallel the girls’ queerness to their literal, voracious instinct: this desire to consume or be consumed by another person, and the paradoxical fear of how palpable that emotion becomes.

Admittedly, I am not as drawn to the animation as I am to the potential of its premise. While the eerie gazes of both the main girls are quite striking, the rest of their character design feels akin to many coming-of-age school anime, and the “horror” aspect so far seems limited to the occasional blood splatter. But the visuals are still decent, and paired with the brief yet haunting voice acting delivery we hear in the trailer, I’m hopeful that we’ve yet to see the best of this production.

What happens when beastfolk attend a school filled with regular humans? That’s the premise of With You, Our Love Will Make It Through. But before love can blossom, I can’t help but wonder: how would such a romance even begin?

When I first saw the name and trailer for this upcoming anime, I simply thought I was in for a standard high school romance. Mari, the main female character, even starts off by mentioning her ordinary school life. Of course, when a character says something like that, it turns out to be anything but ordinary, yet I assumed that it would be a simple twist or gimmick that would influence her life. Yet, within seconds of watching the trailer, I had to throw all my expectations away when a light blue dog/fox-like character named Tsunagu appeared on-screen. Although I found Tsunagu’s towering size a little unbelievable for a high schooler, his presence immediately made him stand out, and I wonder why he transferred into a school where he sticks out like a sore thumb.

Despite this twist, the trailer still has the typical visuals of a romance anime, such as soft spring colors and cute chibi moments that spotlight the characters’ emotions. Watching Tsunagu blush over Mari’s words and actions captures a sweet, vulnerable charm that makes me want to see how their love story will develop and unfold in these unusual circumstances.

After the announcement in 2021, I thought I would have to give up, having heard no new information about the anime adaptation for three years. So I became excited when Aniplex finally released more information about the series. I can finally get to see all my favorite characters come to life in this new adaptation this coming fall season!

Although this anime will be based on the manga adaptations rather than the game itself, I have very high expectations. The animation looks amazing, especially the character designs. They were adapted so well and are similar to the character designs that Black Butler’s author, Yana Toboso, did for the game. Many of the voice actors are also reprising their roles in the series aside from Yuken Enma, the main protagonist of the season, making my expectations for the anime shoot up through the roof as I imagine them saying their famous lines once more.

Admittedly, I am already a fan of this franchise and will watch the series whether or not this adaptation does well. However, after seeing all the visuals and the trailer, I have high hopes for the anime to follow as closely as possible to at least the manga adaptation it’s based on, if not the game, while also keeping the charm that makes this franchise unique and loved by many around the world.
