A new Higurashi: When They Cry TV anime has been announced. Studio Deen is the animation production studio.
The cast once again features Soichiro Hoshi as Keiichi Maebara, Mai Nakahara as Rena Ryugu, Satsuki Yukino as Mion and Shion Sonozaki, Mika Kanai as Satoko Honjo, and Yukari Tamura as Rika Furude.
Higurashi When They Cry began as a mystery and psychological horror visual novel series by 07th Expansion, starting with the 2002 release of Onikakushi, and has since become a multimedia franchise. 2006 saw the debut ot the 26-episode TV anime Higurashi When They Cry, which was followed by a sequel series subtitled Kai the following year. After several OVAs, Higurashi When They Cry received another TV anime in the form of 2020’s Higurashi When They Cry — Sotsu and its 2021 sequel Higurashi When They Cry — Gou. Sotsu and Gou featured various new story elements and deviations from the past TV anime.
The original TV anime was directed by Chiaki Kon (Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts) at Studio Deen. Sotsu and Gou were directed by Keiichirō Kawaguchi at Passione with Akio Watanabe (Monogatari series) as character designer.
