Japan is currently in the early hours of August 21 at the time of writing, and one of the light novels going on sale this date is a romantic comedy featuring a teenage boy and a girl who, barring any twists, is apparently a parallel world’s version of himself. It’s titled Heikosekai no Jibun ga Konomi no Bishojo de Heki mo Onaji datta node Koishiteshimatta (The Me from a Parallel World is My Type of Beauty and Has the Same Quirk, So I Fell in Love) and is authored by Tamazo Yanagi, the scriptwriter of anime like Momentary Lily, The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses, The Masterful Cat Is Depressed Again, and W’z.

The main duo of the story are Asano Masumi and Tsukino Masumi. According to the synopsis, Asano is into unhappy endings and Tsukino, whom he meets at a theater, happens to have the same interest plus the kind of looks he’s into. The surprises continue when they head home and discover that Asano’s home is now Tsukino’s as well, suddenly placing them in a cohabitation situation, and the two come to the conclusion that the latter is Asano’s parallel world counterpart who somehow wandered into this world. While the two try to send Tsukino back to her original world, the fact that they’re each other’s type means they can’t help but be conscious of one another…
Heikosekai no Jibun ga Konomi no Bishojo de Heki mo Onaji datta node Koishiteshimatta is illustrated by Yuki Fuyuno and is being published under Shueisha’s Dash X Bunko label. Some anime adaptation sources, like There’s No Freaking Way I’ll Be Your Lover! Unless… (Watanare), Classroom for Heroes, Märchen Mädchen, and Necromancer Isekai, came from this label.
