10. Voice of the Heart – Whisper of the Heart
One day Shizuku notices that the name Seiji Amasawa appears in all of the books she has checked out from the library. She looks for and finds the name in other books she has recently read. Someone else, someone she doesn’t know, has exactly the same taste in books as she does somewhere. He’s read every book she reads and she’s not sure if she likes that idea. The following day, Shizuku is on her way to bring her father’s lunch when she discovers an ordinary-looking cat that is on the train all alone. When the animal leaves the train at the station where Shizuku also has to get off, the girl decides to follow her. The chance encounter with the cat leads Shizuku to Seiji Amasawa’s house, she gets to know a family who loves music and the mystical and magical cat teaches them to search for “the hidden treasures” of life. Shizuku dreams of becoming a writer. Seiji wants to go to Italy and become a famous violin maker. He has applied to a school in Italy and is waiting for their answer. There are several obstacles to the joint happiness of Siji and Shizuku; both have their own dream that leads them in different directions. Yet their feelings for one another are strong.
9. The poppy mountain
When one day an article about Umi’s morning ritual appears in the school newspaper, she visits the newspaper’s editorial office and meets the editor Shun, who fascinates her straight away. The two fatherless teenagers become friends and spend a lot of time together. Together with other young people, they campaign for the preservation of a dilapidated clubhouse, because the old wooden house is to be demolished because the location is needed for the upcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo. Umi is impressed by the boys’ commitment and so she organizes the girls at the school to renovate the clubhouse and prevent it from being demolished. While the girls show the boys that protest does not only include speech but also action, Umi and Shun fall in love. But soon they discover that there are secrets about Shun’s origins that could endanger their relationship. Now Shun and Umi have to clear up a long past love story of their parents, and at the same time the owner of the clubhouse has to be convinced that there is more valuable than lucrative building plot …
8. The kingdom of cats
The main character in this story is Haru, a normal 17 year old girl. She has no special abilities and is not particularly pretty either. When she is confronted with reality, she is unable to make decisions and can therefore be very strongly influenced by other people. One day Haru selflessly saves the life of a cat. This cat turns out to be the prince of the kingdom of cats and through strange circumstances Haru finds himself a short time later as the future bride of the prince in the cat world. Can Muta and the Baron rescue the girl from this extremely predicament?
7. Memories of Marnie
The silent orphan girl Anna, suffering from asthma, is sent by her foster mother Yoriko to live with relatives in the country for the summer. While exploring the new surroundings, Anna discovers an old abandoned house that she seems to know and meets young Marnie there. The mysterious blonde girl becomes Anna’s first real girlfriend and she’s been enjoying life again for a long time. However, when one day Marnie disappears without a trace and the Lindsay family moves into the vacant house, Anna befriends Sayaka, the family’s daughter. Sayaka finds Marnie’s diary and Anna realizes that Marnie wasn’t who she pretended to be. What was Marnie’s secret?
6. Nausicaä from the Valley of the Winds
A war that myths refer to as the “Seven Days of Fire” turned the earth into a desolate wasteland with few civilizations left. Instead, there is now a huge mushroom forest, the spores of which are highly toxic for humans. One of the last fertile oases is the so-called “Valley of the Winds”. The natural updrafts that flow around the valley prevent spores from the mushroom forest from entering. Nausicaä is the young princess of the people of the Valley of the Winds. 5. The castle in heaven
In the silver light of the full moon, an airship glides over a sea of clouds. Muska, a government secret agent, brings the girl Sheeta to Tedis Fortress. Suddenly the ship is attacked by pirates.
The pirates and the government agent both have the same goal: They want to discover the secret of the crystal that Sheeta wears on a chain around her neck. The crystal is the key to the secret of the hidden city of Laputa, an island floating in the sky, built by a fabled people who long disappeared from the planet. Does Laputa actually hold treasures and riches beyond imagination, or is there a mysterious technology so advanced that whoever rules it could rule the world?
Sheeta finds a friend in the young Pazu who helps her to escape her pursuers and who accompanies her in search of the solution to the riddle of the floating castle. Sheeta and Pazu flee from the pirates together and travel to Laputa. What they find in this strange and mysterious place is a treasure, more valuable than the power to rule the world.
4. My neighbor Totoro
Eight-year-old Satsuki and her little sister Mei move to the country with their father, a university professor. They want to be close to their mother, who is recovering from a serious illness in a nearby hospital. Her new home is a dilapidated farmhouse that has been uninhabited for some time. The two girls really want to bring the house back into shape. Mei discovers small black dust balls that appear to be alive – they flee from light. One day little Mei is playing in the courtyard and discovers a tiny creature with a sack that collects acorns. She follows him into the forest and climbs through the undergrowth. Suddenly she is pulled into a hole in the trunk of a huge tree. At the end of the hole, she meets the fast asleep Totoro, a huge furry creature almost the size of a small house. This is the story of Meis and Satsuki’s friendship with the magical Totoro and his friends, who are invisible to adults and can only be seen by the children who love them. On a mild summer night, the girls fly around with Totoro, plant gigantic trees that grow within minutes and then settle high on the branches. If you are in trouble, the girls call on Totoro and his friends for help.
3. Howl’s Moving Castle
The girl Sophie works as a hatter in her late father’s shop. While visiting the city, she happened to meet the magician Hauro. She falls in love with him and is then cursed by a jealous witch that turns her into an old woman.
Sophie leaves her hometown in the body of a 90-year-old and moves into the distance to find Hauro and to undo the evil curse. Eventually she finds him and works as a cleaning lady in his mysterious “walking lock”, which can open doors in four different worlds and times. Fire devil Calcifer, who guards the house, and Hauro’s childlike assistant Markl will soon become their friends – only Hauro pays her little attention. However, when he is called by the king to save his country from the impending war, he takes on responsibility. 1. Shihiro’s journey to the magical land
Ten-year-old Chihiro is not at all enthusiastic about moving from Tokyo to a small suburb with her parents and leaving all of her friends behind. You arrive in a deserted city and find an empty restaurant, where Spirited Away’s parents rush to eat – and are turned into pigs. Suddenly a mysterious boy named Haku appears, who explains to Chihiro that there is only one way to save her enchanted parents: She has to enter the service of the evil witch Yubaba, who not only rules the magical world of Aburaya. Chihiro rises to this challenge and embarks on a journey on which she has to demonstrate undreamt-of courage, a previously unknown willpower and perseverance …
