Rascal Does Not Dream of A Dear Friend will begin screening in Japan on October 16. It is the conclusion to the Rascal Does Not Dream (Seishun Butayaro) anime series, which sees protagonist Sakuta Azusagawa helping girls who suffer live-affecting effects from the supernatural Adolescence Syndrome. It shares its name with the original light novel series’ 15th and final main volume, the synopsis of which Yen Press describes as such:

As the truth about Miori and Touko Kirishima comes to light, Sakuta must make a choice that will decide everything…for him…for Mai…for Shouko…for Miori…and for Touko. Only one thing’s for sure—whatever happens, this will be his final bout of Adolescence Syndrome!

The Rascal Does Not Dream anime adaptation started with a 2018 TV series, titled Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai like the first light novel volume, and also consists of a 2019 movie, two 2023 films, and 2025’s Rascal Does Not Dream of Santa Claus TV anime.

The light novel series began in 2014 and arrived at Volume 15 in 2024. A second short story collection will be released on October 9, 2026. The books are from The Pet Girl of Sakurasou duo of Hajime Kamoshida (writer) and Keji Mizoguchi (illustrator) and are published under the Dengeki Bunko label that’s associated with KADOKAWA’s ASCII Media Works brand. Some of the stories have inspired manga adaptations.
