The season 2 announcement arrived on the same date as the release of the Re:Monster: Dark Continent Arc light novels’ fifth volume and the Re:Monster manga’s 15th volume.

Re:Monster is a Japanese light novel written by Kogitsune Kanekiru. It is illustrated by Yamada, with NAJI Yanagida illustrating the “Dark Continent” arc. It first began as a web novel on Shosetsuka ni Naro from 2011 to 2018, before being published by Alphapolis. The light novel series has nine volumes, a side story, and an extra volume.

In July 2018, Alphapolis began publishing the Re:Monster: Dark Continent Arc and has released four volumes, with the fifth volume released in Japan on the same date as the season 2 announcement.

The series also inspired a manga adaptation written by Haruyoshi Kobayakawa, and the first season of the anime adaptation premiered on April 4, 2024.

Seven Seas Entertainment has licensed and is releasing the manga in English. It describes the series as:

Tomokui Kanata has suffered an untimely death, but his adventures are

far from over. He is reborn into a fantastical world of monsters and

magic—as a lowly goblin! But Kanata, or Gobrou as he is now named, is

not about to let that stop him. With a combination of memories from his

old life, a brand new body, and a monstrous appetite, Gobrou thrives in

this new world where he must devour other creatures to gain their

powers. It takes strength, smarts, and a strong stomach to survive in this

action-packed fantasy!
