Hizzoner said that 74 percent of families opted for a blended format that will have kids alternate between home and building instruction.
Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza said that 26 percent of parents chose full remote learning and will not return to their classrooms in the fall.
Carranza also indicated that 15 percent of teachers have applied for coronavirus medical exemptions for next school year.
The city teachers union has continued to express concern over the Department of Education’s safety assurances and has called for more steps to be taken.
UFT President Michael Mulgrew has broached the possibility of court action and protests if classroom conditions aren’t acceptable.
The new year is slated to begin on September 10 and Carranza said that families will begin to get their new schedules beginning next week.
Depending on building populations and space constraints, kids will sit in classrooms anywhere from 1 to 3 times a week.
