The anime film “Aya and the Witch” from Studio Ghibli will be released in German by LEONINE Anime this autumn!
The latest anime work by Studio Ghibli will be released on December 30, 2020 under the name “Āya to Majo” (internationally known as “Earwig and the Witch”) was broadcast on Japanese television and is also the first computer-animated feature film from the traditionally hand-drawing studio. Gorō Miyazaki (director of “The Chronicles of Earth Sea”, “The Poppy Mountain”), the son of the renowned studio co-creator Hayao Miyazaki, directed the book adaptation.
In this country, LEONINE Anime (formerly called Universum Anime) has secured the license to the TV film. It is planned to use this as a “Aya and the witch” am 24. September 2021 on DVD and Blu-ray Disc.
After the television broadcast, a theatrical version of “Aya and the Witch” was announced. The version with exclusive scenes planned for April 2021 in Japan had to be postponed to August 27, 2021 due to the pandemic.
According to the US licensee GKIDS, who released the film in several ways in early 2021, the theatrical version, which has not yet been released in Japan, is already being offered in the United States. At the moment it is not known whether LEONINE Anime will publish the TV or theatrical version. Only those FSK approval from 6 has been confirmed since May 2021.
