Weeks after its world premiere at Anime Expo 2026, the upcoming anime film To You in the Beyond, which begins screening in Japan on October 9. has received a main trailer and a main visual, as well as more cast announcements.
The newly announced voice actors are Sumire Uesaka as Tamaki Mishima, Wataru Hatano as Shuji Aiba, Nobuhiko Okamoto as Akimitsu Yano, and Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Yoshiki Suka.
To You in the Beyond (Doko yori mo Toi Basho ni Iru Kimi e) is an adaptation of the “boy-meets-girl” novel by Akiko Abe, with the premise seeing protagonist Kazuki Tsukigase discovering the amnesiac Nanao at a particular cove. The synopsis reads:
On the lush, remote Tokishima lies a mysterious place known as the “Spirited Away Cove.”
After leaving the city due to personal circumstances, high school student Kazuki Tsukigase begins a new life on the island. One early summer day, he discovers an unconscious girl at the cove.
Her name is Nanao Aika.
Claiming to have come from the year 1974, Nanao is taken in by Kazuki and a man named Takatsu, who happens to be at the cove when they find her. Intrigued by the mysterious girl, Kazuki begins visiting her after school, until one day Nanao reveals a shocking truth.
When the past and the present converge, the future of two people bound by hidden secrets begins to unfold.
The anime is directed by Junichi Wada (High Card, Caligula, WorldEnd) at TMS Entertainment Studio 6, with other staff including character designer hechima (Cosmic Princess Kaguya! Tsukuyomi character designer), scriptwriter Sayaka Kuwamura, and background art director Minoru Onishi.
The cast includes Hiiro Ishibashi as Kazuki Tsukigase, Anna Nagase as Nanao, Simba Tsuchiya as Mikiya Ozaki, and Hiroshi Tamaki as Takatsu.
The To You in the Beyond novel was released in 2017 under the Shueisha Orange Bunko label. It was the winner of the 22nd Honya Taisho Award.
