#Trevor Bauer vs. Aubrey Huff is the baseball Twitter war no one needed

No one wins when Trevor Bauer and Aubrey Huff start flinging petty, expletive-laden insults at each other over social media.

The war of words between the controversial duo — both of whom are well-acquainted in the art of the Twitter tirade — began when Huff quote-tweeted the 29-year-old Reds’ pitcher after he said he would “continue holding [his] tongue” about the current status of MLB’s restart troubles.

“Can we remind @BauerOutage of his career 4 ERA, 3.5 BB per 9 innings, & 10 games over .500 winning % is a 4/5th starter salary in @mlb & maybe keep quiet before he’s exposed, please & thank you,” Huff wrote. “He’s a great tweeter. #MLB pitcher? That’s debatable.”

Both Bauer and Huff are extremely outspoken on social media and frequently use their platforms to broadcast divisive statements. The 43-year-old former Giants player proudly boasts about his opposition to issues such as gun control, women in sports, analytics and vaccines. In November, he came under fire for a particularly offensive joke about kidnapping and enslaving Iranian women and was banned from Giants’ alumni events in February.

“Trying to tell someone not to tweet is…shall we call it, odd…coming from you Aubs,” Bauer wrote back. “Here, have some more attention. I’ll forward some followers your way.”

Bauer — who has made contentious remarks about climate change, 9/11 and Barack Obama — has amassed nearly 280,000 followers, dwarfing Huff’s flock of about 125,000. Clearly triggered by the comment, Huff fired off some very personal jabs, even attacking Bauer’s manhood.

“Attention is all you crave Trev. I never had social media when I played. I was a team player,” he wrote. “I wasn’t trying to build an outside brand for fans to suck my d–k. You’re a cuck. You have low T. I suggest you inject yourself with a bit of testosterone.”

“Oh no a random twitter account word vomited at me whatever shall I do,” Bauer replied. “Apparently connecting with fans is a bad thing these days, who knew ??‍♂️ thanks for recognizing my brand building ability though Aubs. About the nicest thing I’ve ever seen you tweet.”

“The fact you said in your 1st tweet, ‘I’ll forward some followers your way,’ tells me everything I need to know about you @BauerOutage,” Huff fired back. “You’d rather build a brand than win. That’s why I have 2 World Series rings & you j–k off to analytic spin rate geek fans like @keithlaw.”

Next, Bauer digs in with stats and states that his “wins above replacement” is higher than Huff’s.

“Thanks pookie. I know some people are only capable of doing one thing at a time. Others of us can walk and chew bubble gum simultaneously,” he wrote. “Better at wining, and tweeting.”

Huff replied with a photo of his two World Series rings and said, “I’ll take these 2 rings over your .1% WAR advantage @BauerOutage The fact you value an individual nerd stat over team wins is textbook participation trophy generation.”

Without waiting for another reply from Bauer, an impatient Huff replied again with a screenshot of his own stats and the message, “Hey sugar tits where you getting your nerd stats from? I had no idea what my career @mlb war was until you mentioned it. So I had to check it out. Maybe research before you tweet @BauerOutage.”

“Welcome to the world of advanced stats,” Bauer replied sarcastically. “I can teach you if you ask nicely, princess! Or we can just stick to your .111 batting average in the post season on your way to earning your participation trophy.”

Huff deflected, and brought up Bauer’s freak pinkie accident during the 2016 World Series that he suffered while handling a drone.

“I’m sure your @Indians teammates were thrilled with that cool hobby of yours @BauerOutage,” he said. “The @Cubs players & fans thank you! #participationtrophy Trophy.”

The fight concluded (for now) with a vulgar, two-part video series from Huff dedicated to Bauer titled, “Nerds have infiltrated Major League Baseball.”
