The third season of the Umamusume: Pretty Derby horse girl racing series is set to begin airing sometime in 2023. A teaser trailer and visual centered on Kitasan Black and Satono Diamond, who are now the main characters, were released.

Kitasan Black and Satono Diamond were previously the focal characters in the Umamusume: Pretty Derby game’s first anniversary video from 2022, which depicted their Tracen Academy entrance ceremony. The Umamusume: Pretty Derby Season 3 website lists the video as a prologue to the show.

As with previous seasons, Umamusume: Pretty Derby Season 3 is directed by Kei Oikawa with Yousuke Kabashima and Tomoko Tsuji as character designers. Shingo Nagai (Season 2 scriptwriter) and Tetsuya Obari (Umamusume: Pretty Derby game 1st Anniversary Special Animation scenario director) are serving as series composers, with Obari also serving as scenario director. Minami Kiyonaga (Umamusume: Pretty Derby game 1st Anniversary Special Animation) is onboard as character design supervisor.

Meanwhile, the cast includes Hinaki Yano as Kitasan Black, Hina Tachibana as Satono Diamond, Azumi Waki as Special Week, Marika Kouno as Silence Suzuka, Machico as Tokai Teio, Saori Oonishi as Mejiro McQueen, Ayaka Oohashi as Vodka, Chisa Kimura as Daiwa Scarlet, Hitomi Ueda as Gold Ship, and Kouji Okino as Trainer.

The Umamusume: Pretty Derby anime released its first season (produced by P.A.Works) in 2018 and its second season (produced by Studio KAI with P.A.Works providing assistance) in 2021. It is part of a multimedia franchise created by Cygames, which includes a social simulation game, manga, and recent stage play. A Cygames Pictures-produced web anime titled Umamusume: Pretty Derby — Road to the Top, which stars the Horse Girls Narita Top Road, Admire Vega, and T.M.Opera O, will begin streaming on the Pakatube YouTube channel on April 16.
