A teaser trailer for the upcoming Wasted Chef anime film has been released. The early look — mostly lighthearted, until the closing moments preview some form of unusual calamity — was accompanied by the announcement of a manga drawn by Aero05.
The Wasted Chef manga will debut on June 4 in the July 2026 issue of KADOKAWA’s seinen magazine Young Ace.
Additionally, a press release reveals a bit more about the movie’s content:
Referred to by its project code “WASTED CHEF”, this animation film centers on the unusual mix of “cuisine” and “sci-fi”, resulting in a fresh form of entertainment.

Wasted Chef is the first original work from director Takayuki Hirao (Pompo the Cinephile, The Garden of Sinners: Paradox Spiral, God Eater, Gyo: Tokyo Fish Attack), who is again directing at Pompo the Cinephile‘s CLAP. Other staff include Shingo Adachi (Lycoris Recoil director, Sword Art Online Season 1 and 2 character designer) as main character designer and Kenta Matsukuma (Pompo The Cinephile) as music composer. The film‘s production was reported in 2023.
Annecy Animation Showcase previously provided the following synopsis for Wasted Chef:
A young chef chasing a lost flavor lands in a ruined city without taste. Saved by Kasumi, his cooking awakens forgotten memories. But a dark force threatens to erase all desire — making his quest the last hope to save both worlds.
