Some character visuals for the upcoming Witch on the Holy Night anime film adaptation have been revealed. There are also voice cast announcements.
Like the 2023 HD remaster of Type-Moon‘s Witch on the Holy Night visual novel, the movie will star Haruka Tomatsu as Aoko Aozaki. Also reprising their roles are Yusuke Kobayashi as Sojuro Shizuki and Kana Hanazawa as Alice Kuonji.
The original Witch on the Holy Night game was first released for PC in Japan in 2012, Its fully voiced remaster first launched for Nintendo Switch and PS4 in December 2022 before coming to Steam in December 2023. Steam’s story description for the remaster reads:
In the mansion on the hill, there lived two witches…
It is the late 1980s—the twilight of an era of beauty and vigor.
A boy moves to the city, barely missing two witches living in modern times.
The boy leads a completely ordinary life.
She carries herself with gallant pride.
The girl lives a sleepy, hidden life.
Each walks a starlit path.
One would never expect their paths to cross.
The story of how these three disparate people came together is soon to be told.
The Witch on the Holy Night movie, which was announced in 2021, is set for a 2026 release. Ufotable is the animation production studio.
Witch on the Holy Night is set before the 2000 visual novel Tsukihime (which has a remake of two of its routes). Aoko has a small presence in Tsukihime and is also part of its spin-off fighting game series, Melty Blood.
