#Hilarious Fan-Made Agent Smith Audition Video Questions Why There's A Matrix 4 -BB

A new fan-made Agent Smith audition video questions why The Matrix 4 is being made. Indeed, many were surprised when it was announced late last year that, after nearly two decades away from the franchise, Lana Wachowski and Keanu Reeves were returning to revive The Matrix.

Released in 1999, the original Matrix was not only a box office phenomenon, it proved to be a hugely influential film especially in terms of visuals and action. Given the success of the first film, it was not a surprise when the Wachowskis came back for more with 2003’s pair of sequels The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions. Unfortunately, two Matrix movies in one year was too much even for hardcore fans and the third film fizzled at the box office (it didn’t help that the movies became increasingly bizarre as the Wachowskis dug deeper into the Matrix’s complex themes).

Indeed, there are very good reasons why The Matrix ended as a movie franchise after 2003’s films. But now the Wachowskis’ world is coming back to screens with The Matrix 4, with many key cast members returning and some new ones like Jonathan Groff and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II being added. One person who won’t be back however is Hugo Weaving as Agent Smith, the dapper bad guy AI program of the original films. But if the Wachowskis want a new Agent Smith, filmmaker Jack Douglass is ready to step into Weaving’s shoes, as he demonstrated with the hilarious audition video he posted to Twitter. See the clip in the space below:

Clearly, Douglass has worked on his Agent Smith voice very hard, especially the “Mr. Anderson” part. He also has good sunglasses game, which is vital for anyone wanting to play Smith. Amusingly, the one time in the video where Douglass really breaks from the menacing Smith persona is when he begins questioning why there’s even a Matrix 4 when Smith and Neo both died in the last movie. Indeed, many others have asked themselves the same question.

No doubt, Wachowski, Reeves and the other returning principles from the original Matrix movies have their reasons for wanting to revisit the universe they created beginning way back in 1999. As for the fans, there seems to be a lot of skepticism about the idea of making The Matrix 4 nearly 20 years after the franchise reached a somewhat anti-climactic and disappointing end with Matrix Revolutions. Of course, if Wachowski and company have truly great ideas for the sequel, then that will make for a great movie and fans will readily embrace The Matrix all over again. But if the film just turns into a flimsy nostalgia trip like so many other movies that attempt to revisit defunct franchises, then there will just be more disappointment in store for moviegoers.
