#Kylo Ren's Scar: 10 Physical Features That Changed Mid-Franchise -BB

In movies, a good way to visualize a character’s life-changing experience or their monumental choice is to alter their physical appearance. This could be as simple as getting a haircut or wearing a new costume, or as titanic as suffering a grave injury.

Through this simple visualization, it’s made clear that nothing will ever be the same for that character and how the audience will see them from that point on. With that in mind, here are ten physical features that changed mid-franchise and stayed that way ever since.

10 Harry Hart (Kingsman: The Golden Circle)

In one of this posh spy parody’s most shocking moments, veteran gentleman sleuth Harry Hart gets shot in the face and promptly dies. But thanks to the new technology introduced in the sequel and contrived screenwriting, Harry survives – albeit with his memories locked somewhere in his subconscious and now donning an eyepatch.

Being a proper British man, however, Harry finds a way to cover his fatal injury with class. Regardless of how you may feel about Harry’s survival and how it waters down the stakes of the Kingsman movies, it is hard to deny that Harry’s new look is both suave and badass.

9 Jason Voorhees’ Body (Friday The 13th)

No one’s really sure what Jason Voorhees actually is. Is he a murderous hick or a zombie? Is he really a parasitic worm-thing that jumps from host to host or just a really tough dude? No matter what the answer is, one truth remains: Jason is nigh-indestructible. While he may be technically immortal, his injuries stay permanent.

Each passing sequel shows his body getting progressively worse, and it’s in total decay by the time of Freddy Vs. Jason. Given how much damage Jason sustained over the decades, his imperviousness and resilience would be commendable if not for the fact that he only gets back up to murder teenagers.

8 Kylo Ren’s Scars (Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens)

Following his brutal duel with Finn and Rey, the scars that Kylo Ren sustains never fully heal. These facial scars are still present in The Rise of Skywalker, although they’ve noticeably healed a bit better compared to their raw state in The Last Jedi.

Just like his destroyed helmet, these scars could be viewed as a physical representation of Kylo’s emotional scars that inform his decision to join the Dark Side of the Force. He may have somewhat redeemed himself in the latest Star Wars movie but, like his wounds, some scars will never truly go away – no matter how hard you try.

7 War Machine’s Legs (Capt. America: Civil War)

Stowaway your Terrence Howard jokes for now because we’re not talking about Colonel James Rhodes’ recasting here; we’re talking about his ordeal in Civil War. During the tarmac fight, Rhodey is accidentally shot down by Vision. He survives the fall, but at the cost of his legs.

When Civil War ends, Rhodey is seen in therapy to help regain the use of his legs. By the time of Infinity War and Endgame, Rhodey walks around with the aid of cybernetic leg braces, built by none other than Tony Stark. This injury changed Rhodey forever, as he’s now a lot more jaded than before. He, however, found solace by bonding with an unlikely friend who also suffered permanent physical injuries: Nebula.

6 Jaime Lannister’ Hand & Appearance (Game of Thrones)

When audiences first meet Jaime Lannister in Game of Thrones‘ inaugural season, he’s a cocky Kingsguard who has the skill to back up his boasts. Then he gets his sword hand chopped off as a joke and he gets the crap beaten out of him on numerous occasions.

Thus starts Jaime’s unexpected redemption arc, where he transforms from a self-absorbed knight into a legitimate hero who was just hidden under layers of excessive bravado. It’s worth noting that not only does Jaime never lose his golden prosthetic hand and beard, but he keeps his humbler persona until the series‘ bitter end.

5 Walter White’s Hair (Breaking Bad)

While technically a mid-season change more than a mid-franchise one, Walter White shaving his head in the sixth episode of Breaking Bad is one of the biggest shockers in the entire series. For some fans, this moment solidifies the birth of Heisenberg, as the once mild-mannered chemistry teacher begins to embrace his ruthless Machiavellian drug lord persona.

When he lets his hair grow back during the fifth and final season, it could be inferred that Walt finally let go of Heisenberg’s lust for power and reverted back to being his old self. This didn’t make him any less dangerous, though.

4 Anakin Skywalker’s Body (Star Wars Episode III – The Revenge of the Sith)

If you watch the Star Wars saga chronologically, Anakin’s physical transformation into Darth Vader would be one of the most jarring and iconic mid-franchise changes ever seen. After losing the high ground and being defeated by Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin is left for dead on the fiery sands of Mustafar. (Un)Fortunately, Emperor Palpatine finds him just in time and brings his apprentice to the Emperor Palpatine Surgical Reconstruction Centre (no, really).

To keep Anakin alive despite his grievous injuries, the medical droids install the prosthetics and armor that would come to define Darth Vader’s nightmarish appearance. It’s fittingly tragic that Darth Vader’s intimidating look is the only thing keeping him alive, proving that Anakin really died on Mustafar before becoming the galaxy’s most feared Sith Lord.

3 Ash Williams’ Hand (Evil Dead II)

No physical change to a character could be groovier than Ash Williams’ glow-up. After the Deadites possess his hand and force him to chop it off, Ash decides to do the most logical thing in the world: Stick a chainsaw on his stump. This turns out to be the best and most badass idea ever, as his new prosthetic allows him to kill even more Deadites than before.

In more ways than one, this moment best embodies the Evil Dead’s transition from straightforward horror to bloody dark comedy – the latter of which was further cemented by the cult hit Ash vs. Evil Dead. There have been many mid-franchise physical changes in pop culture, but are none as ridiculously awesome and glorious as Ash’s chainsaw hand.

2 Bruce Banner Becomes Professor Hulk (Avengers: Endgame)

Avengers: Endgame was filled with many surprises, but none could be as shocking as the reveal of Professor Hulk. Following a humiliating defeat at Thanos’ hands, Hulk refuses to come out and leaves Bruce alone. Bruce realizes that the solution is to embrace the Hulk rather than treat him as a necessary evil. This leads to their fusion who’s better known as Professor Hulk: the middle ground between the polar opposites that are Bruce and the Hulk.

With the brains and the brawn of these two sides, Professor Hulk doesn’t just prove to be a great Avenger but an unlikely source of comedy in Endgame’s dour first act. Fans only caught a glimpse of Professor Hulk but they’re understandably hungry for more of him, and we won’t be surprised if he returns for more MCU adventures. Professor Hulk has since become a favorite representation of conquering one’s demons, and we can see why.

1 Thor Becomes Bro Thor (Avengers: Endgame)

Usually, a character’s physical transformation would make them look cooler or more badass. That isn’t the case for Thor, who goes from buff God of Thunder to fat depressed bum in Endgame. No one could blame him, though; he holds himself responsible for Thanos’ universal genocide, so it’s easy to see why he let himself go. What’s surprising and impressive about this is how Endgame never condemns Thor for the way he’s been coping with hard times – despite some jokes made at his expense.

As much as Thor hates himself, everyone around him says otherwise and still sees the hero that he really is. Nowhere is this better shown than when he’s still able to summon Mjolnir, proving that despite falling into a dark place, he’s still worthy. Thor dealing with his greatest failure and facing it captivated audiences worldwide, turning him into an instant pop culture icon.
