Princess Jellyfish Creator's Food Detective Manga Gets Live-Action Adaptation -BB

Longing for more from the creator of Princess Jellyfish? One of her other titles is making the jump to drama this spring!

Akiko Higashimura’s Gourmet Detective Goro Akechi is due for a live-action adaptation starting this year. The series follows the title character as he solves food-related mysteries, enlisting the help of deli chef Ichigo Kobayashi as his assistant. (This Goro Akechi is no relation to the Persona 5 character, though—save for sharing a namesake in fictional detective Kogoro Akechi.)

Tomoya Nakamura will take on the role of Akechi. He recently appeared as Tatsuyuki Misumi in the live-action film adaptations of March Comes in Like a Lion… and, interestingly enough, appeared as a tropical fish store clerk in the 2014 film adaptation of Princess Jellyfish. Nakamura read and enjoyed the original manga, and apparently helped the costume department select fabric for the recreation of Akechi’s unique outfit.

Higashimura mentioned her love of mystery series, especially the works of Edogawa Rampo (who created Detective Kogoro Akechi), when discussing the new series. She also describes Nakamura in the lead role as „handsome, clever, and a little mysterious.“

Gourmet Detective Goro Akechi premiers on NTV this April.
