Saint Young Men Stars Pray for a Hit at Tokyo's Kanda Shrine

The latest installment of the live-action Saint Young Men drama kicks off today, and its stars have already locked in prayers for its success at Tokyo’s Kanda Shrine.

The venue was an appropriate final stop for the new season’s press tour—the series stars Shota Sometani (Shinichi Izumi in the live-action Parasyte films) as Jesus and Kenichi Matsuyama (L in the live-action Death Note films) as Buddha. The pair decide to holiday in the human world, taking up residence in a small Tokyo apartment and attempting to enjoy a normal modern life.

The pair appeared at the temple with young actress Kurumi Inagaki (Harumi in the In This Corner of the World live drama), who plays the granddaughter of the holy duo’s landlord. The three were on site both to give one last interview before the third installment’s premiere and to pray for its success.

Sometani and Matsuyama talked about working on both the new installment and the previous theatrical release. The pair discussed Jesus and Buddha’s karaoke night, as well as the fact that no one gave them a second look while filming in Akihabara. Matsuyama also mentioned that he would enjoy playing the characters in a completely serious setting at some point.

As for the new season itself, the outlook seems positive: all three actors pulled „Good“ fortunes at the temple.

Saint Young Men III kicks off today on NHK, with Netflix and theatrical releases scheduled for later this month.
