New movies are released all the time, in all genres. In the past several years, there’s been a huge boom in the popularity of horror movies, meaning that a ton of new horror movies have been released every year and the genre is showing no signs of slowing down any time soon, which is a good thing for people that love scary movies. In 2020, there are a ton of movies that have already come out and even more that have been announced to come out later in the year.

The year 2020 is already shaping up to be a great year for horror movies. Movie adaptations of books and remakes of classic horror movies are going to be coming out alongside sequels and completely original movies. Although they all have their own unique plots and reasons for us to get excited, these movies all share one thing in common: they’re going to be super scary.

To see 10 of the scariest movies coming out in 2020, keep reading!

10 The Vast Of Night

The Vast of Night is an upcoming horror movie reminiscent of the sci-fi classic The Twilight Zone. This movie takes us back to the 1950s and is set in a small town in New Mexico that becomes the target of an other-worldly frequency. The main characters set out to try to figure out who’s broadcasting it and exactly what they want with the people of Earth.

This movie made its debut at a few different film festivals in 2019, but people that weren’t lucky enough to see the film during its debut at those events will be able to see it in theaters when it gets its wide release on March 13th, 2020.

9 Antebellum

Antebellum is set to be released on April 24th, 2020. This movie is being compared to other similar horror movies like Get Out because of the film’s social commentary. It’s also a fitting comparison since this film and Get Out both share a producer in Sean McKittrick. The movie stars Janelle Monáe as Veronica, a successful author who finds herself trapped in a terrifying alternate reality.

Although Janelle Monáe originally rose to fame as a musician, the multi-talented A-lister has also been in a few films in the past, although Antebellum is set to be her first horror film. The movie will also star other celebs like Jena Malone and Jack Huston.

8 The Lodge

The Lodge is an upcoming horror movie that is being directed by the same minds that gave us the eerie foreign language film Goodnight Mommy. The movie premiered at film festivals in 2019 but will be released widely on February 7th, 2020 for anyone that wasn’t lucky enough to attend Sundance and see the screening there.

The movie stars Riley Keough as a woman who goes to her family’s cabin during the winter with her stepchildren. What should be a good time to get to know one another turns dark when secrets and traumas from the family’s past start to resurface and make themselves at home in the secluded cabin with the family.

7 Last Night In Soho

Last Night In Soho is an upcoming horror movie that is scheduled to be released on September 25th, 2020. This movie stars Thomasin McKenzie, Matt Smith, and Anya Taylor-Joy. With such a star-studded cast, we’re sure that this unique psychological horror flick will be a good one.

The movie takes us back to the 1960s and is set in London during this time period. The movie features a young aspiring fashion designer who finds herself transported back to this decade and finds herself face-to-face with a hopeful musician. Unfortunately for her, things are not what they seem in London.

6 I’m Thinking Of Ending Things

I’m Thinking of Ending Things is a psychological thriller novel by Iain Reid. It’s Reid’s debut novel and was released in 2016. This terrifying novel follows a woman who is thinking about breaking up with her boyfriend when she agrees to go on a trip with him to his family’s secluded farm. When they’re forced to take a slight detour in their trip, things get weird.

In 2018, it was announced that Charlie Kaufman would be directing a movie adaptation of the novel for Netflix. Although there isn’t a solid release date on the movie yet, filming wrapped in late 2019 and Netflix has stated that the movie will land on the streaming service sometime in 2020. This is perfect for people that want to pick up the book first to see how it ends.

5 Antlers

Antlers is an upcoming horror movie that stars Jesse Plemons and Keri Russell. It’s set to be released on April 17th, 2020 and was directed by Scott Cooper. In the past, Cooper has directed films like Crazy Heart and Hostiles, so we’re definitely excited to see his take on a horror film.

This movie is set in a small town in Oregon and follows as a teacher, played by Russell, finds out that one of her students has a terrifying secret that threatens the entire town. This movie was based on a short story called The Quiet Boy by Nick Antosca.

4 Vivarium

The word „vivarium“ refers to a structure like an aquarium or a terrarium that has been modified and set up to house animals of some sort, typically so that they can be studied or observed but also so they can be kept as pets. It’s also the title of a movie that’s set to be released on March 27th, 2020 after having premiered at film festivals in 2019.

Vivarium stars Jesse Eisenberg and Imogen Poots as a young couple looking to purchase their first home together. The two of them meet a real estate agent who takes them to a suburb full of identical houses, which seems perfectly normal… Until they try to leave and keep winding up in the heart of the suburb, regardless of the road they take out.

3 Halloween Kills

The Halloween franchise has been around for decades. Michael Myers is an icon in the world of scary movies and it seems like nothing can stop this terrifying killer from hunting down his victims. Reboots and sequels have come out pretty regularly and Halloween Kills is scheduled to be the latest release in this long-running franchise.

Halloween Kills is set to be released on October 16th, 2020 with a sequel, Halloween Ends, scheduled for release on October 15th, 2021. This movie is a sequel to the 2018 Halloween film and once again stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Nick Castle. Details about the plot aren’t entirely clear, but since it’s a sequel to the 2018 film, we know a little bit of what we can expect.

2 The Invisible Man

The Invisible Man is a modern adaptation of H.G. Wells novel of the same name and a modern remake of the 1933 film adaptation of the same name. This movie stars Elisabeth Moss as Cecilia Kass, a woman who recently got out of an abusive relationship with her wealthy ex, a brilliant scientist. When her ex allegedly commits suicide and leaves his fortune to Cecilia, she becomes suspicious about what really happened to him.

The movie is set to be released on February 28th, 2020. Along with this movie, it was reported that Elizabeth Banks would be starring, directing and producing a film called The Invisible Woman at some point in the future.

1 Come To Daddy

Come to Daddy is an upcoming horror movie that is scheduled to be released on February 21st, 2020. This movie stars Elijah Wood as Norval, a man who hasn’t exactly had the easiest life. When he receives a letter from his estranged father saying he wants to meet and finally have a relationship, Norval jumps at the chance. Unfortunately, when he gets to his father’s remote home, he begins to wonder if he made a mistake.

This movie originally premiered at a film festival in 2019, but is being widely released in theaters in early 2020. Although this film is more on the thriller side of the horror genre, it still has some spooky vibes and we can’t wait to see it.
