Instead of going to E3 2020, one of the biggest gaming events of the year, Sony said to GamesIndustry.biz that it’ll instead go to hundreds of events around the world to “focus … on making sure fans feel part of the PlayStation family.” This would be the second time that Sony has missed out on E3, instead focusing on other events, such as CES, where they unveiled the PS5 logo for the first time on January 6.
A Sony spokesperson told GamesIndustry.biz, “We have great respect for the ESA as an organization, but we do not feel the vision of E3 2020 is the right venue for what we are focused on this year.” That focus includes Experience PlayStation, a month-long celebration of everything PlayStation in New York City from January 14 to February 16 where players can play a range of PlayStation 4 titles from the companies history.
VGC has said that Microsoft, who are launching the Xbox Series X at some point in 2020, has already adjusted their plans for E3 2020 and are planning to have a large presence at the trade show to showcase the power of their new console.
With both Nintendo and PlayStation not having major conferences at the event, Xbox has to chance to take center-stage with a traditional conference alongside developers and the PC Gaming Show. E3 2020 is planned to take place from June 9 to June 11.
