Super Mario Odyssey: How to Beat Bowser on the Moon -BB

The vast levels of Super Mario Odyssey provide players with unprecedented freedom in their exploration and advancement through the game’s world and story. The variety of movement options within the game allows players a technically complex title, which rewards creative approaches to given obstacles. Odyssey challenges a player’s inner treasure hunter as the major collectibles of the game are hidden throughout the level in either hard to reach or difficult to discover places.

Mario Odyssey presents one of the most difficult to defeat incarnations of Mario’s life long rival, the infamous Bowser. Having to face the Koopa King twice during the game, the final encounter will challenge the player’s skills and understanding of the game’s mechanics. This guide will provide players with the tools they need to defeat the infamous villain and save Princess Peach from his clutches.

Odyssey’s version of Bowser is equipped with an arsenal of powerful attacks. Facing the giant monster is by far the most difficult challenge players will face in the entire game. His powerful melee attacks on top of his dangerous long-range fire attacks make the villain a fearsome foe.

Bowser will initiate the fight by tossing his white hat at Mario. This hat is equipped with two powerful boxing glove arms and will attempt to strike players if too close. The best way to deal with Bowser’s hat is to throw Cappy at it as it travels towards the players. This will flip it upside down allowing players to don the hat and serving as the primary way to deal damage to the Koopa King. As the battle progresses Bowser will begin to throw more and more hats at the player. These hats will consist of dark black „fake“ hats, although there is nothing fake about the damage they deal. If these hats hit a player Bowser will jump to another platform and throw another round of projectiles at the player. Be sure to use Cappy to destroy these hats, they are the only items that provide hearts in this arena and are crucial to survival. However, be sure to focus your aim on Bowser’s „real“ hat to equip the hat and deal damage to the powerful boss.

After players manage to steal Bowser’s hat, the giant lizard will begin throwing burning bombs at Mario. The best course of action is to simply avoid the burning balls and to charge Bowser. However, Bowser will throw a ball forwards, to his right and his left covering all bases and protecting himself from the player’s approach. Be sure to memorize where the pattern of his tosses and adjust your path accordingly.

Another obstacle players must avoid when chasing down the large lizard fiend is his powerful ground pound attacks. These will send a wave of burning energy towards Mario and can whittle away at a player’s life if not careful. Bowser will launch three of these shock waves at a player and will test the player’s mobile skills. Simply jump over each wave and charge the boss before he begins throwing his bombs.

Another move to be wary of is Bowser’s powerful fire breath attack. He will perform this move after being damaged by players. Bowser will jump to the middle of the arena and unleash a powerful wave of fire breath at Mario. Simply head to one of the many mounds throughout the arena and jump over the flames. The main aspect of the flame to worry about is the very middle of the fire stream. This is where the primary hitbox is and where players will receive damage. Be sure to jump at what seems like the very edge of the fire breath in order to escape harm’s way.

The final weapon in Bowser’s arsenal is his tail swipe attack. Bowser will only unleash this move after he has taken damage. When players approach the boss and begin unleashing their punch attacks he will block the onslaught and turn around with a powerful tail swipe. Jump over this move and continue your attack. As the fight progresses he will do a maximum of three tail swipes. So be cautious as you attack Bowser and be ready to jump over this attack.

Fighting the gigantic enemy can be an intimating challenge to overcome. His wide assortment of attacks can be a lot to memorize and will prove to be frustrating and challenging for most players. However, once his attack pattern is memorized the battle will be trivial at best. Simply adjust to his attack pattern and the Koopa King will be no more.

Bowser always starts the fight by tossing his hat at Mario. As it travels towards Mario, use Cappy to stop the projectile, flipping it upside down. This will allow Mario to wear the hat and unlocks the ability to unleash a barrage of punch attacks on the villain. He will initially block the punches but press the button rapidly to break through his guard and launch him at the spikes surrounding the arena.

After launching Bowser towards the spikes be sure to avoid his fire breath attack. He will then begin throwing „fake“ hats mixed with his real hat. Be sure to either avoid or destroy these hats then rinse and repeat the prior steps. Hit Bowser’s real hat then charge the enemy and unleash a powerful barrage of punches. Bowser will begin using his tail swipe attack so adjust accordingly and continue attacking the intimidating foe.

If you manage to take damage during the fight utilize Bowser’s fake hats to receive some needed hearts. These are the only items that provide hearts during this battle and should be used when in dangerous situations. But simply rinse and repeat the given steps in order to beat down the princess stealing lizard and put an end to his reign of terror. After sending Bowser into the spikes three times the large enemy will be defeated and a cut scene signaling the end of the begin will commence.
