Super Nintendo World Details Revealed by Universal -BB

Universal Studios has revealed some key details regarding the much-anticipated Super Nintendo World theme park. Although information has been scarce the last few years, the Super Nintendo World park will finally open to the public this year.

Since 2017 with the release of the Switch, Nintendo has seen resounding success across the board. During last year’s Thanksgiving week, the hybrid console Nintendo Switch saw fantastic sales in both the United States and Canada. While the Switch is the primary reason for Nintendo’s worldwide resurgence after the Wii U era, the company’s endeavors in other media will likely pay off as well. There’s the Super Mario movie coming from Illumination, the first film adaptation of the iconic franchise since 1993. However, the Mario film still seems a little far off. Something coming sooner is Super Nintendo World, an interactive theme park coming to Japan. The other Universal locations will get the park as well, but it’s coming to Japan first this summer. Finally, Universal has revealed the key interactive element for the park.

Today, Universal Studios took to the stage to talk about Super Nintendo World, and how it will be an interactive experience. This will come in the form of wristbands. The wristband will be connected to a smartphone app, and invites visitors to collect different items, including digital coins and character stamps. A couple of demonstrators showed getting coins from a Question Block replica in classic Mario fashion. In addition to this information, Nintendo also released a music video dedicated to the park. Check out both videos below.

It should be noted that all this is pertaining to the Japanese Super Nintendo World. According to Universal’s, visitors will buy the wristbands. Once linked to the app, it will keep track of the person’s stats. Thus, it becomes a game among visitors to see who can get the highest score. The wristbands and app will make use of visitors‘ „arms, hands and entire bodies,“ promising interactivity as they explore. Universal says interactivity will also come in the form of „Key Challenges.“ Players can find digital keys, and after acquiring a certain number, can cooperate with other key-holders to unlock other things, including boss fights. Universal Creative’s Senior Vice President and Chief Creative Officer, Thierry Coup, considers this gameplay integration as „one of the most innovative experiences“ to be created at Universal Studios. It sounds like visitors will feel like Mario as they hit Question Blocks in person.

The only two confirmed attractions is a Mario Kart-themed experience, and one with everyone’s favorite green dinosaur, Yoshi. Super Nintendo World is sounding and looking very much like a transport into the colorful world of Super Mario. Hopefully it won’t be too long before the park is built at other Universal Studios locations.
