5 Theories About Frozen 2 That Were Correct (& 5 That Were Debunked)

Frozen 2 released in theaters a few short months ago and yet fans are still talking about it. Disney lovers have already begun theorizing about the next film in the franchise, and considering how much money Frozen 2 made, it’s likely there will be another movie in the future.

Still, hindsight is 20/20. Looking back at Frozen 2, it’s fun to think about some of the theories that wound up coming true and those that ended up being debunked once the film finally debuted.

10 Kristoff will propose to Anna (Correct)

We all know how the majority of Disney movies operate. The main male character and female character will fall in love and get married as part of their happily ever after. That’s a little different in Frozen, since there are two main women and one has a complicated love life in the first film.

But by the film’s end, Anna is with Kristoff and it becomes apparent that the two will get married soon. Kristoff proposes to her (after overcoming several obstacles) and she accepts.

9 Anna will have fire powers (Debunked)

One theory proposed that Anna would have fire powers to parallel Elsa’s ice powers. The main reason for this theory is that in fiction, it’s rare for one sibling to have abilities and the other to not. We’ve seen this explored in many superhero origin stories. Screen Rant did an entire article on this specific theory and how certain hints were given about discovering Anna’s true nature in the sequel. However, none of this ever came to pass. We do see a fire spirit, but it has nothing to do with Anna having secret powers.

8 We will learn how Elsa got her powers (Correct)

The bulk of Frozen 2 is about Anna and Elsa’s past and their parents. We do indeed learn the truth about Elsa’s powers. We learn that her powers were a gift from the spirits and that Elsa herself is the „fifth“ spirit and meant to serve as a bridge between Northuldra and Arendelle.

The sisters‘ parents fell in love and stopped a war between their sparring people, which is why the spirits thought it fitting to give them something special in return.

7 Hans will get a redemption arc (Debunked)

There are a great many Frozen fans who think there is another side to Hans. There was a theory that his personality in the first movie wasn’t the entirety of his character. Some people anticipated seeing Hans return in the sequel to redeem himself. That never comes to pass. If anything, the fact that Hans was evil is hammered home in the sequel as both Elsa and Anna make several digs about him and his malicious actions.

6 We will find out what really happened to Anna and Elsa’s parents (Correct)

Similar to some of the other theories on this list, we do finally learn the truth about Elsa and Anna’s parents, Agnarr and Iduna. We learn that their love helped to manifest Elsa’s powers eventually due to their unfailing kindness and unification between Northuldra and Arendelle people.

They died because they were trying to reach the magical river, Ahtohallan, across the Dark Sea, in the hopes they would learn the truth about Elsa there. Unfortunately, their ship crashed and the two died at sea. Elsa and Anna find their ship on their journey.

5 Elsa will get a girlfriend (Debunked)

Google Frozen or Elsa, and you’re guaranteed to find several articles and websites dedicated to the idea that Elsa is an LGBTQ+ icon, specifically a lesbian. There are tons of people who feel that Elsa’s popularity creates the perfect opportunity for Disney to introduce a gay princess into their repertoire. They hoped that would happen in the sequel. Unfortunately, it doesn’t happen, although that hasn’t stopped fans from shipping Elsa and Honeymarin, who briefly interact in the film.

4 Olaf will die (Correct)

Several fans accurately predicted Olaf’s death in Frozen 2. Of course, it doesn’t wind up being permanent, but the theory still rang true. The reason people theorized Olaf would die is that they believed Disney would want to raise some of the stakes in the second movie.

As Olaf is one of the most popular franchise characters, no one ever anticipated it would stick, but the moment is still sad. It’s made all the more depressing thanks to the many parallels it draws to Peter Parker’s death in Avengers: Infinity War.

3 Frozen 2 will have a female villain (Debunked)

Like we mentioned above, it would fit for Elsa to have a fiery counterpart. If it couldn’t be Anna, then people theorized that there would be a female antagonist introduced that would have fire abilities similar to Elsa’s ice powers. Unfortunately, that doesn’t come to pass, and King Runeard winds up being the only new villain introduced. The writers might not have wanted a new woman villain so soon after exploring Elsa’s moral ambiguity in the first movie, but perhaps it could happen in a potential third film.

2 Elsa will die (Correct)

Another popular theory posited that Elsa would die as a final sacrifice to save Anna at one point in the movie. Many thought that Elsa would have to give up her powers and would pass away in the process. After the intense trailer for the film released, this theory became even more popular.

Like Olaf, Elsa does temporarily die in Frozen 2 by freezing to death, but it doesn’t last forever. Anna saves the day and Elsa returns to life and to save Arendelle from being flooded. It’s not likely that Disney would ever permanently kill either sister.

1 Elsa and Anna’s parents are secretly alive (Debunked)

After promotional material came out for Frozen 2, fans begin suspecting that the Northuldra had taken care of Elsa and Anna’s parents for years since they went missing. Now that the movie is out, it’s easy to imagine them being trapped in the enchanted forest along with the rest of the Northuldra and Arendale soldiers. That doesn’t happen. In fact, Anna and Elsa’s parents‘ crash and the reason for their expedition in the first place become one of the major plot points of the sequel.
