#Kenji Tsuruta Provides Manga Illustrations for Hideaki Anno's Character in Last Letter Live-Action Film -BB
While working busily on the long-awaited Evangelion: 3.0+1.0, which is finally set to be released in Japan on June 27, 2020, 59-year-old Hideaki Anno recently starred in Shunji Iwai (Love Letter, Swallow Tail)’s latest live-action film Last Letter. The 121-minute romance film was released in Japan on January 17, 2020, and earned 136 million yen, ranking fourth in its opening weekend.
In the film, Anno plays the protagonist character Yuri Kishinobe (played by Takako Matsu)’s husband Soujiro, who is working as a manga artist. The character’s job was a doctor in the original script, but after Anno’s casting was decided, it was changed to a manga artist to fit more to him.
Shunji Iwai starred in Anno’s 2000 live-action film Shiki-Jitsu alongside Ayako Fujitani, which was his first film appearance as an actor. Meanwhile, Anno has made many guest appearances in various live-action films, including his Shin Godzilla and Shin Ultraman partner Shinji Higuchi’s 2006 film Japan Sinks.
The manga „Dokuganryu Memeko“ (One-Eyed Dragon Memeko) featured in the film was drawn by 58-year-old manga artist Kenji Tsuruta, known for his sci-fi series Spirit of Wonder, which was also adapted into the five-episode OVA from 1992 to 2004. khara’s official Twitter has posted the manga’s illustrations and character sheets by Tsuruta.
