#Playing With Fire Deleted Scene: John Cena Should Be Division Commander -BB
An exclusive Playing With Fire deleted scene depicts Joe Manganiello’s showboating firefighter hamming it up for the press after another daring rescue, teasing he’s going to make a run for the open division commander position. Hitting theaters back in November, Playing With Fire is a family comedy starring Cena, Keegan-Michael Key, and John Leguziamo as a group of firefighters who face their toughest challenge yet when they’re forced to babysit three troublemaking kids. The film serves as the latest illustration of Cena’s humorous side, following his roles in previous comedies such as Daddy’s Home 2 and Blockers.
After a box office run that saw the movie bring in $61.6 million worldwide, Playing With Fire is now available to watch at home. The film hit Digital on January 21, with the Blu-ray slated for a couple of weeks from now on February 4. Paramount is in the process of promoting Playing With Fire’s home media release, which of course will include various special features for fans to enjoy, such as deleted scenes. The studio’s unveiled one such sequence now.
Shared as an exclusive to Screen Rant is this Playing With Fire deleted scene, showing Cena’s Jake Carson expressing disgust with Chief Taylor’s (Manganiello) conduct in a media interview following the Santa Barbara fire. Watch it in the space below:
This scene highlights some of Jake’s more likable character traits, showing audiences he cares most about helping others and saving lives. It’s an amusing juxtaposition with Chief Taylor, who relishes in comparing himself to a superhero and clearly loves all the attention he’s receiving during the interview. While the sequence is obviously played for laughs, Jake’s attitude regarding what firefighters‘ responsibilities are and why they do their job could be reflective of Cena himself. The actor is a big supporter of first responders, pledging a sizable charity donation in their honor shortly before Playing With Fire premiered. His admiration for real-life heroes might have been what inspired him to make the film in the first place.
The deleted scene shown here is just one of many supplemental features on the Playing With Fire Blu-ray. It also comes with the standard blooper reel, additional deleted scenes, and a handful of featurettes that detail the making of the film. There’s also an exploration into the real-life smokejumpers (specially trained firefighters who handle wildland fires), so viewers can gain a greater appreciation for what they do. Odds are that will be a more emotional and poignant piece when compared to the other bonus materials, but it sounds like it’ll be worth watching.
Playing With Fire is now available on Digital and releases on Blu-ray February 4, 2020.
