The Utawarerumono trilogy, a series of fantasy tactical RPG / visual novel games developed by AQUAPLUS, is returning to PCs in 2020 via a Steam release published by ShiraVN, a localization team working under DMM Games.

The Steam releases will be available in English, Japanese, and Traditional Chinese, and the publications kick off with a simultaneous release of the second and third games (Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception and Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth, respectively) on January 23, 2020. The remastered version of the first game in the series, Utawarerumono: Prelude to the Fallen, will be released later in 2020.

ShiraVN describes each game as follows:

Utwarerumono: Prelude to the Fallen – A man who will be named Hakuowlo awakens amidst snow in an unfamiliar world and comes to be a leader to the natives, who seem almost to be human… except for their furry ears and tails.

Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception – You awaken in a field of snow with no memory of even your name. The local monstrosities nearly devour you before you meet your rescuer, a beautiful girl named Kuon—who has animal ears and a tail. She names you Haku⸺ The Japanese hit tactics-RPG visual novel series returns to PC at last!

Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth – Haku has sacrificed a lot to inherit a mask. With his natural wiles and the reputation of his departed friend, he strikes out on the path to a new future. The curtains rise on an era of strife that will shake Yamato to its very foundations.

The first game in the Utawarerumono series has been adapted into a 2006 TV anime with direction by Tomoki Kobayashi and animation production by OLM, while the second game has been adapted into a 2016 TV anime (Utawarerumono The False Faces) with direction by Keitaro Motonaga and animation production by White Fox. A third anime adaptation based on the Utawarerumono series is currently in-development.
