#Star Wars: Clone Wars Season 7 Trailer Proves Overlap With Revenge Of the Sith -BB

The Clone Wars season 7 trailer confirms that the series overlaps with Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. The animated series originally premiered in 2008, allowing George Lucas and Dave Filoni the opportunity to tell the full story of the Clone Wars, the great conflict that was in reality the ultimate Jedi trap. Unfortunately, Clone Wars was prematurely canceled, meaning there are a lot of loose ends – ones that are finally about to be tied together on Disney+.

The Clone Wars season 7 trailer focuses on the arcs of Darth Maul and Ahsoka, two characters who – by this point in time – are twisted mirror-images of one another. One is a failed Jedi Padawan, the other a failed Sith Apprentice; one has been betrayed by Darth Sidious, the other is unknowingly being betrayed by Darth Vader. It’s so very fitting that these two go head-to-head in the Siege of Mandalore, finally resolving one of the greatest Clone Wars stories.

The Clone Wars season 7 trailer also confirms that this series will be concurrent with Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. In fact, the Jedi were about to launch the attack on Mandalore when General Grievous and Count Dooku struck on Coruscant, forcing Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi to rush back to the Core and free Palpatine, who they believed had been kidnapped by Grievous. The main battle was ongoing over the course of Revenge of the Sith, to the extent that E.K. Johnston’s novel Ahsoka revealed the Siege of Mandalore was brought to an abrupt end by Order 66.

It will be fascinating to see how the events of Revenge of the Sith affect Ahsoka. The bond between a Master and their Apprentice is a strong one, and there can be no doubt Ahsoka would have felt some of Anakin’s descent into the dark side; indeed, it may have bled through to her as well, leaving her vulnerable to the dark side’s siren song. Meanwhile, Darth Maul’s voice-over implies that he is well aware of Darth Sidious‘ strategy, and knows that Order 66 is about to be issued. It’s entirely possible the Clone Troopers‘ attack will actually force Maul and Ahsoka to stand side-by-side for a brief moment, defending themselves against the Emperor’s operatives. The novel Ahsoka confirmed that Rex resisted Order 66 and helped the former Padawan escape, but the precise circumstances are still unknown.

The interesting question is whether or not The Clone Wars season 7 features animated versions of any scenes from Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. A couple of shots in the trailer may potentially be from the Battle of Coruscant, while Anakin Skywalker looks suitably sinister at other moments; has he already committed to the way of the Sith in some of these scenes? Meanwhile, will Ahsoka sense Anakin Skywalker’s fate on Mustafar through her Padawan bond, explaining why she believed her master was dead until Star Wars Rebels? Only time – and The Clone Wars season 7 – will tell.
